This is a marketing video for Jagoe, a home builder based in Owensboro, KY but with houses in many surrounding midwest communities. Produced as part of real estate marketing package with still photos and a virtual tour, this video showcases a beautiful house on Evansville’s Eastside. Read more below about current trends in this industry.
Video production tends to have trends. By this, I mean if you look back over time, often you’ll see that in certain periods, a certain style or way of creating video suddenly gets very popular. I think of the late 70’s and early 80’s as the “zoom” period. Just about all tv shows and local tv commercials made during this time period show extensive use of the servo zoom lenses that proliferated the market back then. And while there’s nothing “wrong” about using those zooms even today, I think most of us would agree now, in hindsight, there were too many shots that simply didn’t warrant the use of the zoom. A prime lens, unfortunately, just wasn’t in fashion. 🙂
When aerial drone video began to get really popular a few years ago, I saw the same thing happening. Drone footage proliferated. There were (and still are) entire videos created using only aerial shots, even if the subject matter only needed perhaps one short perspective from above. Don’t get me wrong, aerial video footage can be very cool. And it’s a great toy, er, I mean tool, to have in the kit. But it often works best when juxtaposed with other detail shots and angles on the ground. And it’s also best when the drone camera matches the color science of that camera on the ground. So my advice is to use it to achieve dynamic video shots… just don’t overuse it.

Now that I’ve given you my two cents about the dangers on overuse of aerial shots, I do think the trend in real estate marketing is for using more than one kind of media. Video is important, but so are digital still photos as well as 360 or 3D virtual tours. Each plays a part and are viewed differently by potential buyers. I’ve expanded my creative services to include all of these.
If you’re in the market for a home, you probably already know this. If you are an agent, owner or someone with a rental property, contact me today or check out the premium packages on our web site.
