Here’s a fun marketing video – especially if you like airplanes and air shows!
This is an edit or “director’s cut”, if you will, that I put together highlighting some of my favorite footage shot during the 2016 ShrinersFest Air Show. Watch the video and then read on to learn more about some of the technical details producing this video.
While preparing for this marketing shoot, I thought a lot about the best way to capture the stunts and sheer brilliance of the pilots and aircraft’s precision. I was mostly hired to capture video footage to use for marketing and advertising air shows to come in the future. While no one requested slow motion, I decided that I would film at both 120 frames per second as well as simultaneously recording at the “normal” 24fps, to hopefully slow down certain moments in each performance but still have footage in “real time”. So, essentially the client got two shots for the price of one!
It was a very, very hot hazy day (and became even hazier as the show went on) so the blue sky over Evansville almost became whitish gray, but the pilots never disappointed with their gravity-defying skills. I find now that I can watch the slow motion shots over and over again and still be left a bit in awe with each viewing. The slow motion, especially when used in conjunction with normal speed, turned out to be a really nice effect. Hope you enjoy! I would love if you let me know what you think.
