Picture yourself behind the camera, in a studio set up with photography strobes, getting ready to take shots of community leaders who will drop by for their portrait. Normally this could perhaps be a bit unnerving, as time is always in short supply with professional people. So you might feel a bit of pressure to capture their image quickly so they could be on their way. But of course, you are a professional photographer and also want them to look good, which can take a bit of time. But then those people show up, one at a time, and casually strike funny & interesting poses for the camera, all while wearing an often over-the-top pink wig. And keep in mind, some of the wigs, to be frank, are also a bit unfashionable, to put in mildly. So suddenly, your task at hand becomes a lot less stressful and interesting, perhaps dare I say it’s fun. Thus was the case with these head shots. It was all in a days work for the fight against breast cancer.
I was happy to help support the Susan G. Komen Tri-State affiliate with their first annual “Big Wigs” campaign. Below are the final 20 head shots taken for the billboards, social media & web site campaign. They were all done against a white backdrop, using a basic three light set-up. These 10 courageous individuals “put themselves out there ” to raise money for the local Komen affiliate. I hope you had time to vote for your favorite and support the worthy cause. I think the expression “tinkled pink” is the perfect description for how I felt helping out, clicking the shutter as they let their hair down. Sorry, just couldn’t help myself. Hope you’re tickled by some of their expressions.
